Many people have computers to work and continue to play.
They use them to search for topics, watch movies and chat with family and
friends. However, there is a use for the PC that many people do not consider
until after the fact and that is for home security. Using a computer can help
keep your home more secure, and most importantly, most of the security tasks
can be done without any action on your part, once you get your system set up.
One of the most common ways to use the computer as a
security system is like a tape recorder. You could connect the surveillance
equipment video to your computer and allow the hard drive to capture all events
that occur within the range of the cameras. This is much cheaper than the
record used to be, because it's all digital, so there is no need to worry about
changing tapes or running out of disk space. With today's technology, you can
also set up the surveillance system to record only when motion is detected by
the cameras. This saves energy and space on your hard drive.
Another way that the PC can act as a security system is
connected to an alarm system. In this way, you do not need to be in front of
your computer at any time of the day and night monitoring system. You can
program your computer to sound an alarm when accessing certain points of entry
to your home. At that point, the security systems of the most sophisticated
computers can notify the authorities and get your house in a hurry. This would
eliminate the need for a monitoring system of third parties, which is a common
component of most home security systems commercial. The initial setting for
this type of computer system may be expensive, but not have to pay for the
monitoring of every month, so in the end, it may actually be cheaper to use
your computer instead of a company.
One of the best advantages of using a PC as a security
system is that you can keep an eye on your home even if you are on vacation
or at work. With most smart phones these days, you can connect to your computer
and monitor activity that occurs in your home. If you see something out of
the ordinary you can contact the authorities and protect your home, even when
you cannot physically be there.
